This handbook is designed to help accomplish the following:

·         Serve as an official source for polices, procedures, and regulations at Cenla Christian Academy

·         Provide a convenient source of basic information to the student/parent

·         Identify specific functions for school officials

Please note carefully – In the event that amendments to the handbook must be made with just cause, the Cenla Christian Academy administration, along with the Board of Directors, will do so with prompt notification sent to students and parents.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM_________________________

Program of Studies

The Abeka Curriculum is used as the standard for education at Cenla Christian Academy.  Historically, this curriculum has yielded high results and testing scores for students, and its standards are upheld in the classroom. Other resources may be used in addition to the Abeka Curriculum as needed.

School, State, and College Requirements

For high school students, our standards are designed to meet the graduation requirements of the Department of Education of the State of Louisiana.  Please note that not all courses can be taken at every grade level, and some courses do require prerequisite courses.  Therefore, a student must plan accordingly to complete all coursework before graduation.

To quality for TOPS (Louisiana Tuition Opportunity Program for Students), students must meet several qualifications.  Just because a student qualifies for TOPS does not mean the student is automatically eligible for any Louisiana university.  For example, TOPS does not require physics, but some colleges, including LSU, do require this course for admission.  It is the student’s responsibility to schedule courses in accordance with university they wish to attend.  It is the school’s responsibility to ensure the student is scheduled the appropriate classes for graduation.

TOPS ( Louisiana Tuition Opportunity for Students)

TOPS is a comprehensive program of state scholarships and one of the most innovative and progressive student assistance programs in the nation.  For full compilation of TOPS requirements and changes, please refer to the website at www.osfa.state.la.us.

Accommodations

It is the policy of Cenla Christian Academy to not modify the Abeka curriculum.  With prior notification, we can provide some accommodations for students with documented disabilities.  Any student requesting accommodations must set up a meeting with the principal to determine if Cenla Christian Academy will best be able to accommodate and educate the student.

Grading Scale

The academic school year is divided into four nine weeks.  The grade for each nine weeks is based on class participation, quizzes, tests, projects, and other graded assignments.  When computing each semester, the averages of both nine weeks are used.  For the final grade, both semesters are averaged.  To receive credit for the course, a grade of ‘D’ must be received.  The numerical value of a ‘D’ will vary according to the scale used below.  Students who do not meet the attendance requirements may not receive credit for the course.

Please note – When calculating the final average for a 9-12 grade student, each student must pass either the final exam or the final nine weeks.  Failure of both will result in a failing grade for that subject for the entire school year.

Elementary Policies

Academic Honesty

The students of Cenla Christian Academy are expected to maintain the highest standards of honesty and integrity.  This includes work on research papers, homework, tests, and other assignments.  If work has been copied, there will be assumed guilt for all parties involved.  Student work that violates our policy of academic honesty will be subject to the consequences of cheating.  Any work turned in that is not entirely the work of the student is considered a violation and will be penalized as such.

At the end of the fourth week of each quarter, progress reports are posted online.  It is the responsibility of the parent to access the progress report through RenWeb.  Printed copies are available upon request to the main office.  If a student has a ‘D’ or ‘F” in any class, it is the parent’s responsibility to contact the teacher with any concerns.

ABSENTEEISM AND TARDINESS________________

Attendance

Students are expected to attend all classes every day school is in session.  Cenla Christian Academy policy allows a total of sixteen (16) days of absence from school per year.  Absences beyond this amount will result in the loss of academic credit for that course.  This policy applies to individual classes as well as whole school days.  Records will be kept by the teacher, and students violating this policy will be subject to disciplinary action as determined by the Administration.

The school reserves the right to judge the acceptability of parental requests which involve a student’s absence during the school day.

Tardiness

Students must be on time for class.  Tardy students will receive additional written work, which will be determined by the teacher.  If the work is not completed, a demerit will be issued.  A student who is tardy for the first period of class must report directly to the office.  Parents must accompany students to the office to receive a tardy slip.  Students that come into the office unaccompanied by a parent will remain in office until parent returns to sign in their child.

General Procedures

Parents are expected to notify the office by 8:30 a.m. if their child will be absent that day.  This procedure is to help our office maintain security and accountability for all students.

Except in the case of an educational absence, a student may not participate in any athletic event, practice, or extracurricular activity on the day of the absence without the permission of the Administration.

Types of Absences

All absences are counted as a part of the student’s attendance record.

  1. Excused – An excused absence is one in which the student is absent for a legitimate reason as determined by the Administration.  The student is allowed to make-up all work missed during the absence, but arrangements must be made by the student immediately upon return to school.
  2. Unexcused – An unexcused absence is one in which the student is absent without approval.  Matters of convenience will not be counted as excused.  The student may make up missed work, receiving a minimum of 50% of the credit.
  3. Educational – An educational absence is one in which the student is absent to participate in a school-sponsored activity.  Such absences are not counted against the student’s attendance record; however, missed work must still be made up.  Any student with a ‘D’ or ‘F’ is not allowed to miss that class for an educational, athletic, or extracurricular reason.
  4. Extended – An extended absence is one where the student will be out for an extended period of time due to illness.  The student must present a doctor’s order and meet with the Administration before an extended absence will be permitted.

Check-In/Check-Out Procedure

All students must check-in or check-out through our school office.  The student understands that he/she is responsible for all work missed as a result of checking in or out.  All requests for a student to be checked out must be made in writing and signed by a parent.  Any forgery of a signature will result in severe disciplinary actionNo students will be allowed to check out after 2:15 p.m. without prior notification and approval.  A student must be present for at least four classes during the day to participate in athletic or extracurricular events.  No student will be given permission to provide transportation to another student leaving school.  An exception may be made for siblings at the request of the parents.

Cancellation of the School Day

Cenla Christian Academy will follow Rapides Parish school closings in case of inclement weather.  Please tune into local radio and television stations for that information.

Cutting Class

Cutting class is not permitted nor tolerated.  Students found doing so will be subject to corrective action.

The Cenla Christian Academy administration, faculty, and board of directors have adopted the following rules for student behavior.  We believe that no student has the right to interfere with a teacher’s right to teach and that no student is allowed to interfere in the learning process of another student.  In addition, a student is not allowed to use spoken, written, or physical gestures which may harm or offend another student.

We expect our students to maintain the highest Christian standards, acting in a fashion that honors Christ, others, and themselves.  Student behavior will be monitored and any discipline will be administered judiciously, firmly, and fairly by the appropriate officials.

Threats of Violence

When informed of possible violence, Cenla Christian Academy will take this information seriously and contact the proper authorities.  If the threat involves a student, the parent will be notified immediately.  If the student is on campus, he/she will be detained to take all possible precautions.  We will have a no-tolerance policy in dealing with real or frivolous threats of violence toward students, teachers, staff, or school property.

Books

Students are responsible for any books that are lost, stolen, or damaged.  The student will be responsible for paying for a replacement book.

Change of Address

The student or parent must notify the office in case of permanent address, email address or phone number change during the school year.

Damage to Property

A student is expected to use the buildings and furnishings of Cenla Christian Academy/Journey Church for the purpose intended.  A student who by his/her actions damages/destroys school property is obligated to replace the vandalized object at his/her own personal expense. An act of vandalism against property belonging to another school, or any member of our faculty, staff, or student body, either on or off campus, will result in severe corrective action.

Distribution of Printed Material

As the school is not a public forum, any material to be distributed must first be approved by the administration.  Unauthorized distribution of public materials will be seen as a violation and consequences handled by administration

Cell Phones

Use of cell phones are prohibited during school hours.  Cell phones must be turned off and contained in the student’s school bag during the school day.  If the cell phone is visible –whether turned off or on—it will be confiscated and reported to the office.  The parent will be responsible for securing the cell phone from the school office, and a fee of $15 must be paid before the phone will be returned.  See cell phone policy in back of handbook.

Electronics

Radios, tape players, compact disc players, I pod’s, cameras, or any other electronic device are not permitted on campus at any time.  These items will be confiscated and returned to the parent at the discretion of the administration.

Fire Drills

Fire drills are required by law and are an important safety precaution.  When the alarm is sounded, students are to follow the posted fire drill route, calmly and quietly.  Each teacher is responsible for having the route posted near the closest exit.

Tornado Drills

Upon hearing the alert, the students will immediately go to the designated area and sit on the floor in the proper position.  The position is sitting with knees up to the chest, head between knees, ad arms wrapped over the head to protect it.

Food or Drink

Food or drink is not permitted anywhere in the building other than in the cafeteria.  No water or other drink is to be consumed in the classroom.  Only bag lunches may be brought outside of the cafeteria.  Gum chewing is prohibited on campus.

Homework

Homework is a necessary and beneficial aspect of the school day and Abeka program.  Students must complete homework assignments, including studying and reading, as well as written work.  Copying another student’s homework hinders the educational process and could also constitute cheating.  Habitual failure to do homework may result in disciplinary action as well as academic consequences.  If there are questions, please contact the teacher concerned.

Illness

A student who becomes ill during the school day must report to the office to call home.  No student will be allowed to leave with an illness without a parent’s permission.

Make-up Work

Make-up work is allowed for excused absences for full credit and for a minimum of 50% credit for unexcused absences and out-of-school suspensions.  This work is done outside of regular class time, and it is the student’s responsibility to find out what work was missed and what needs to be completed.  A permanent grade of zero will be administered if the student does not complete his/her make up work.

Medication

Students bringing required prescribed or non-prescribed medication to school must bring it directly to the office once arriving on campus.  Medication will be consumed in front of office personnel according to appropriate amounts.  Medication must be properly labeled and in its original container.  Parent’s written permission is required before any medication can be consumed by the student.  If unauthorized medication is found in the possession of any student, while on school property or participating in a school event, immediate disciplinary action will be taken.

Parking

Parking is by permit only.  Permits are to be displayed where they can easily be viewed by Cenla Christian Academy employees.  Abuse or misuse of the parking lot or the parking privilege will result in privileges being suspended or permanently denied for the remainder of the school year, as determined by administration.  There is to be no loitering in the parking lot.  Once students arrive to school, they are to enter the building directly.  Designated areas will be assigned for students.  Any student not parking in his/her designated spot is subject to being towed or fined.  Students are responsible for any money or valuables left in vehicle.  Cenla Christian Academy is not responsible for the private property of the student.  Students are required to hand in their keys to the office upon their arrival and they will be returned at the end of the school day.  If these procedures are not followed the student may loose parking privileges.

Student Search

Cenla Christian Academy recognizes the rights of all students on campus.  If a student is suspected of violating the law or rules of the school, a student search may be deemed necessary and appropriate.  Random searches for contraband (drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products) are considered reasonable and justified in order to keep the school safe and protected.  In the event that school officials have reasonable grounds for searching a student, the search will not be excessively intrusive to the student, taking into account age, sex, and the nature of the infraction.

Student Valuables

Students are cautioned not to bring excessive amount of money or valuables to campus. Cenla Christian Academy is not responsible for lost or stolen valuables.

Visitors

A student may not bring unauthorized visitors to the campus without permission.  All visitors must first report to the school office and receive a visitor’s pass.

The following procedure is used by faculty and taught to the children.  Parents are requested to use this procedure any time there are concerns.

    1. First and foremost, go to the Father for wisdom, insight, and guidance.  Bathing the entire situation in fervent prayer is a must.
    2. Do not broadcast it.  Express your complaint only to the person who should hear it.  Unnecessary worry, harm, and hard feelings result when problems and dissatisfactions are expressed to persons other than those directly involved with the problem.
    3. Tell it to the right person.  Complaints about school policy or operations should be expressed first to the individual in question, and should be expressed to the administrator only if you cannot work it out between yourselves or if you feel he/she should know about it.
    4. Express it promptly.  Keeping it to yourself can cause ill feelings.  Get it out of your system.  Matthew 5:23-24
    5. Express it clearly.  Make sure the person you are expressing your complaints to know all of the details of the situation and exactly what you are complaining about and why.  Misunderstanding of complaints could lead to further problems and needless hard feelings.
    6. Pray about it.  Ask God to help you make your complaint in such a way that it will result in the betterment of our school, and thus, in the glory and growth of His Kingdom.  Read and think about such passages as Ephesians 4: 1-3 and Colossians 3:12-13.

If a complaint is made to or about you, understand what the complaint is and why it is being made.  Give it prompt attention, and make it a growth experience.  Pray about it and ask God’s wisdom in solving the problem.

CCA expects full cooperation from both parents and students in the students’ education.   If at any time the school feels that this cooperation is lacking, from parents or student, the student may be requested to withdraw.  Also, the parent or student’s behavior or attitude indicates an uncooperative spirit or one that is out of harmony with the spirit and the standards of  CCA, whether or not there is any definite breach of conduct, the student may be requested to withdraw.

Conduct Grades

Students are expected to comply with all classroom and school rules.  Since different subjects require different forms of behavior, each teacher is free to set up his/her own classroom guidelines, rules, and consequences.  Students who do not perform these duties, disturb their class, or show disrespect to their teachers will be disciplined by the teacher.  In the event that the behavior is severe or is re-occurring, the student will be written a referral and sent to the Administration.

DRUG TESTING________________________________

Drug testing is a tool used to keep the students of Cenla Christian Academy in a secure environment.  Testing is not necessarily a result of suspicion; rather, it is a resource used to keep students accountable and to help them avoid the temptations that readily exist in today’s society.  Through the drug testing program, CCA can offer concrete evidence to our students, parents, and community that CCA is pro-active in fighting against illegal drug use.  We will do everything in our power to provide a safe educational and spiritual environment for our students.

Initial Set-up

The test screen will determine the presence of amphetamines, barbiturates, ethanol, methadone, opiates, cocaine, PCP, propokyphene, and marijuana.  These are the drugs mandated for testing by the Federal Government in both urine and hair tests.

A standard screen covers a period of approximately ninety (90) days.

Testing Procedure

Testing will be conducted by school administration and will be at the expense of the parents if the test is positive.  Students chosen at random will participate in urine analysis and/or hair analysis to ascertain the presence of controlled substances.

Notification of Results

The principal will contact the parent/guardian of the student and any other necessary authorities.  A meeting will be held to discuss the situation and consequences.  At this time, an explanation of results will be given.  Suspension or expulsion will result if a positive drug test is received.

DISCIPLINE POLICY____________________________

Standard Forms of Discipline

The disciplinary process at Cenla Christian Academy will be regulated by the teacher and administration.  In the event that a student chooses to continue any inappropriate behavior, the Principal and Board of Directors will be informed of the problem. All forms of disciplinary action are documented and kept as a part of the student’s overall behavior record.  This record will be used for re-admission and determining a student’s eligibility for academic, athletic, or extracurricular activities.

  1. Demerit – A demerit is a triplicate form completed by the teacher for minor infractions committed by the student on campus.  Demerits will be entered into RenWeb, and parents will be notified through email that a demerit has been issued.  A demerit automatically gives the student morning detention or corporal punishment.  If a corporal punishment approval form has been signed by the parent, this method will supersede the detention.  Detention will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings from 7:00 a.m. - 7:45 a.m or on Saturday morning from 8a.m -12 p.m. at a cost of $10.00.  Any student who is late or misses detention will be subject to further disciplinary action.  While demerits do not accumulate, any student receiving more than ten (10) will be subject to a meeting with the Principal and Board of Directors.
  1. Corporal Punishment/Detention – For corporal punishment to be administered, parents must first sign a corporal punishment approval form.  In the event that corporal punishment is utilized, the parent will first be informed, and the punishment will be administered by administration.  In the event that corporal punishment is not allowed by the parent, the student will receive detention for every demerit issued.  Detention will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 7:00 a.m. - 7:45 a.m.  Any student who is late or misses detention will be subject to further disciplinary action.
  1. Referral – Referrals are teacher-written reports for habitual minor offences or one major offense.  The teacher may suggest specific consequences, but all decisions will be left to the Administration.
  1. Saturday Detention – Saturday detention will be held as needed from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  The cost is $10, and the fee is to be paid the morning of detention.  Saturday detention duties may include written school work or school maintenance.  The student is expected to be on time and picked up promptly at noon.  In the event that a student is late or misses Saturday detention, he/she will be subject to further disciplinary action.
  1. Suspension – Suspension is an allotted amount of time, to be decided by the Administration, in which a student cannot attend class or any academic, athletic, or extracurricular function.  A student may be suspended for serious misconduct or repeated occurrences of less serious misconduct.  Suspension places a student in jeopardy of withdrawal/expulsion from Cenla Christian Academy.
  2. Withdrawal – Withdrawal requires that a student immediately withdraws from Cenla Christian Academy.  If a student is asked to leave, he or she will not be permitted to reapply within one calendar year of the ruling..
  1. Expulsion – This is the most serious form of punishment issued by Cenla Christian Academy.  The decision to expel a student will be made by the Office of Adminstration, and Board of Directors.  If a student is expelled, he/she may never reapply for admission to Cenla Christian Academy.

Please note—At any time, the administration may request a meeting with the student, parents, Principal, or Board of Directors to discuss serious misconduct.  Any concerns held by the parent over disciplinary action should be addressed to the administration.  If any student is asked to withdraw or is expelled the student is still responsible for his/her tuition for the said year.

In the event that payment has not yet been paid and the student withdraws, the parent will be held financially responsible for the full year’s tuition fees.

Tuition and all other fees charged are non-refundable and non-transferable.

The following conditions or requirements must be met before a withdrawal will be considered:

  2. I give permission for my child to take part in all school activities, including bus trips, sports activities, and school sponsored trips away from the school premises.  I also believe that discipline is necessary for the welfare of each student as well as the entire school.  I give permission for my child’s teacher and/or other agent of the school to make and enforce classroom regulation in a manner consistent with Christian principles and disciplines as set forth in the Scriptures. In elementary, this may include corporal punishment administered by someone in administration.
  3. We agree to send our child/children to school dressed in compliance with the school uniform code.
  4. I give my permission to Cenla Christian Academy to send evaluation sheets to my child’s previous school and to contact the teacher and administration of that school. I understand that they contents of the evaluation sheets and contact shall remain confidential and WILL NOT be released to me.

I understand that in the final disposition of an emergency, the judgment of school authorities will prevail.

  9. I agree to communicate with the school through renweb to monitor my child’s process, newsletters, announcements, etc.
  10. We have received, read and understood all admissions policies, criteria, and procedures.

Cenla Christian Academy has included the most important policies, criteria, and procedures, but is not limited to only the ones listed in this policy or document.

In order for the application for admission to be completed, we the parents/guardians agree to the above statements:

Internet Safety and Technology Policy

As a matter of policy, all Internet access from within Cenla Christian Academy will be filtered.  There is no exception to this policy.  In the case of Internet access by minors, the filtering mechanism may not be disabled for any reason.  For access by adults, the filtering mechanism may be, but is not required to be, disabled only to enable bona fide research.

If a person feels an Internet site has been blocked in error, a written request from the school must be submitted to the Technology Department which will review the site in question. If it is deemed that the site is wrongly blocked, the site will be opened. If there is any question about the appropriateness of the site, the Technology Department will make a recommendation to the Principal for a final decision.

Access by Minors to Inappropriate Material in the Internet and World Wide Web

The Internet is a vast and invaluable educational resource.  However, in a worldwide network, there exists a small amount of information that is not appropriate for minors or an educational setting.  Active measures such as filtering Internet access have been taken to minimize the chance of access by minors to these inappropriate materials. Additionally, as in other school matters, student use of the Internet will be supervised by school staff to reduce the chance a student will access inappropriate material. In order to educate students on appropriate use of the school system and the Internet, personnel who are responsible for supervising student access to the school’s system will provide information to students emphasizing ethical and appropriate use of these resources.

Safety and security of minors when using electronic mail, chat or other direct communications

Due to the problems involved with providing adequate supervision of electronic communications, student email accounts will not be issued by Cenla Christian Academy.  Additionally, two-way, real-time electronic communication technologies such as  Internet-based instant messaging and Internet chat will not be allowed within the school.

 Hacking, Vandalism, and Unauthorized Access

Malicious attempt to harm, deface, degrade, or destroy school equipment, software, or data or the data of another user or system to which the school network is connected is strictly prohibited.  Such action includes but is not limited to intentionally uploading or creating computer viruses, “hacking” of websites, or intentionally degrading or disrupting system performance.  Additionally, attempting to log on to the system by using another person’s password or attempting to access school resources, or those resources connected to the school network, for which the user does not have permissions or rights is prohibited. These actions will be viewed as violations of Cenla Christian Academy guidelines and policy and, possibly, as criminal activity under applicable state and federal laws.

Unauthorized disclosure of personal information

Unauthorized disclosure, use, and dissemination of personal identification information regarding minors are prohibited.  Requests for personal information regarding students or staff should not be honored via email.  Such requests should always occur by means of personal contact.  All school policies, state, and federal laws should be followed when a request for personal information of any sort is made.

Measures Restricting Access by Minors to Inappropriate Materials

The safety and protection of students while using the Internet or school network resources is of primary importance. Therefore, active measures will be taken to restrict, to the maximum extent reasonably possible, students’ access to inappropriate material on the Internet and school network.  The first of these measures is the filtering of all Internet access in the school as described above.  No filtering system is perfect and cannot substitute for staff supervision of student Internet use. Therefore, students are allowed to use computers only when supervised or granted permission by a staff member responsible for their supervision. To assist in the supervision process, computers will, to the extent allowed by the individual room, be place to maximize staff supervision of students using the system.  As noted above, forms of electronic direct, real-time communication such as instant messaging and Internet chat are very difficult to supervise and the instant nature of the communication increases the danger that inappropriate messages will be sent or received.  Because of the difficulty in supervising this type of communication, it is prohibited as outlined above.

Email and General Technology Guidelines

  • Email, web access, and other electronic communications should not be considered private.  While it is a violation of policy for a user or student to attempt to gain access to information for which they do not have authorization, authorized staff may monitor or examine email, file folders, and communications to maintain system integrity, to insure users are using the system responsibly, or for any other reasonable purpose.
  • School computers, software, networks, and Internet access are provided to support the administrative and instructional functions of Cenla Christian Academy.  These resources are to be used primarily for school and school-related purposes.  Incidental personal use of school technology resources or equipment must not interfere with the employee’s job performance or student learning. Additionally, such use must not violate this or any other school policy, must not damage the school’s hardware, software, or networks, or significantly degrade the quality of service of the school’s technology resources.
  • Personal information on any staff member or student shall not be released by email.
  • All users must follow existing copyright laws and restrictions regarding computer software and must not use school computer systems to violate any software license agreement, or any applicable federal, state, or local laws.
  • Students bringing, obscene, vulgar, pornographic, racist, gang-related, hate, or other inappropriate material into the school’s electronic environment are subject to applicable school policies and federal, state, or local laws.  Appropriate disciplinary action or criminal charges may be applied to such actions.  Staff members who knowingly bring obscene, vulgar, pornographic, racist, gang-related, hate, or other inappropriate material into the school’s electronic environment will be subject to disciplinary action or charges in accordance with school policies or federal, state, and local laws.
  • Games and other software that is not of specific educational or administrative nature should not be placed on any school computer without permission.  All software that is installed on school computers must be for a specific educational or administrative purpose.

 Violation of Policy

In the case of students, the violation of any policy may result in the cancellation of user privileges and/or disciplinary action including expulsion or suspension.  In the case of staff, the violation of any policy may result in the cancellation of user privileges and/or disciplinary action. Such acts may also result in criminal prosecution under applicable state and federal laws.  In the case where such actions result in the school incurring costs to restore the network system, hardware, software, or data, Cenla Christian Academy will require restitution for restoration costs.

Student Instruction

Students of CCA will be made aware of the school’s Internet Safety and Technology Policy.  Students will also be taught in the classroom how to use the internet in a safe and appropriate manner.

Cell Phone Policy

Students’ use of cell phones is prohibited anywhere on campus from his or her arrival until 3:00 p.m.  After 3:00 p.m. use of a cell phone is limited to the outside of school buildings.  Cell phones must be left in cars or turned off and kept in the student’s locker or book sack.  (Phones are not to be kept in purses or pockets.)

If a student’s cell phone is heard ringing (or otherwise making noises) while in a locker or book sack, or the student has the cell phone out and is using it in any manner, the following consequences will occur:

1st Offense

The student will receive a demerit, serve detention AND the phone will be confiscated until the next school day.  Students are fined a $15 fee.  Parents must pick up the phone in person and may be given the phone if the $15 fine is paid.

2nd Offense

The student will receive a demerit, serve a 1-day suspension AND the phone will be confiscated for a period of two days.  Students are fined a $15 fee.  Parents must pick up the phone in person after two days and may be given the phone if the $15 fine is paid.

3rd Offense

The student will receive a demerit, serve a 1-day suspension AND the phone will be confiscated for a period of seven days.  Students are fined a $15 fee.  Parents must pick up the phone in person after seven days and may be given the phone if the $15 fine is paid.  The student will not be allowed to bring a cell phone to school for the remainder of the school year.  If a student needs to contact parents or vice versa, the school office phone may be used.

Phones that are not picked up at the end of the confiscation period become the property of Cenla Christian Academy.

Cenla Christian Academy

PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DISCIPLINE AGREEMENT

Parents, please read the following and sign below.

  1. Parents should pray for the students, faculty and staff.
  2. Parents should learn school policies and cooperate with the school in seeing that children cheerfully obey the rules.
  3. Parents are responsible to have their child at school on time and have them picked up on time.
    1. Parents should support the authority of teachers, staff and extracurricular leaders.
    2. Parents should support the discipline administered by the school.
    3. At least one parent of each student should attend all parent meetings.
    4. Parents should help, as they are able, with their child’s education.  They should assist and oversee homework assignments.  Parents should recognize the important role of homework to the total instructional program of their child.
  4. Parents should make themselves aware of the assignments and expectations of the school and the individual teacher. Parents should help their child plan and budget the appropriate amount of study time for the completion of the homework assignment.  Parents should feel free to consult with the teacher about any question relating to the homework assignment. Term papers and long-range projects, which are in addition to regular homework assignments, will be assigned far enough in advance to allow students sufficient time for completion.

Any parental dissatisfaction with any aspect of CCA is to be dealt with promptly and directly.  The Bible instructs us to take any problem to the person involved.  Please see the section on how to handle concerns in the CCA Handbook.

Cenla Christian Academy expects full cooperation from both parents and students in the student’s education. If at any time the school feels that this cooperation is lacking, the student may be requested to withdraw. Also, if the student’s or parent’s behavior or attitude indicates an uncooperative spirit or one that is out of harmony with the spirit and the standards of CCA, whether or not there is any definite breach of conduct, the student may be requested to withdraw.

If a child suffers from a medical problem, which causes the child to be disruptive, the Principal of the school will call a conference with the parents and find a suitable solution. If the recommended solution is not followed by the parents and they have made no attempt to correct their child’s behavior, the school reserves the right to dismiss the child permanently.

Hostile behavior or vulgar language by a parent or student toward a CCA faculty or staff member will not be tolerated and will be considered grounds for the student's dismissal from school.

Student Make-Up Work Policy for Excused and Unexcused Absences

Per our Handbook for Students and Parents, "Make-up work is allowed for excused absences for full credit and for a minimum of 50% credit for unexcused absences and out-of-school suspensions. This work is done outside of regular class time, and it is the students responsibility to find out what work was missed and what needs to be completed. A permanent grade of zero will be administered if the student does not complete his or her make-up work."

A student will do better on assignments when he or she promptly completes make-up work after an absence. For this reason, a limit is set on the length of time a student has to make up work.

            1. For unexcused absences: A student will have one day for each day absent to make up homework, quizzes, and tests. For example, if a student misses Monday and returns to school on Tuesday, they would have until Wednesday to complete make-up work. It is their responsibility, not the teachers’, to make arrangements to make-up tests and quizzes.

            2. For excused absences: A student will have two days for each day absent to make up homework, quizzes, and tests. For example, if a student misses Monday and returns to school on Tuesday, they would have until Thursday to complete make-up work. It is their responsibility, not the teachers’, to make arrangements to make-up tests and quizzes.

            3. For extended excused absences: A student will have two days for each day absent to make up homework, quizzes, and tests. It is very important that the student communicate with each teacher so make-up tests and quizzes are not all scheduled on the same day. Again, it is the student’s responsibility, not the teachers’, to make arrangements for taking make-up tests and quizzes.

To find out what work was missed during an absence, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. If you are having trouble accessing RenWeb, an instruction sheet is available through the school office.

Please make sure your student is aware of the school’s make-up work policy. A copy of this policy is also available online at www.cenlachristian.com.
